Thank you for your support, we look forward to working with you and your children!

Week 7

This week has been all about Christmas. We have explored toys related to the Christmas story and Christmas traditions.

We enjoyed listening to the gingerbread man story and working with gingerbread dough to make Christmas tree decorations.

The nativity play and Christmas carols to parents gave us all an opportunity to see the Christmas story come to life with lots of singing.  It was also great to see some live theatre at Ely Maltings.  Thank you to all of those who came along to watch the pantomime with us.

Week 6

We have had a busy week this week with learning Christmas songs and dances for the Nativity play next week, Christmas jumper day, decorate your bike and scooter and Christmas lunch.

We have started to think about Christmas this week and learning about what traditions people have at this time of year. We explored rolling marbles in paint to make Christmas cards to send to our friends and family. We are also making salt dough decorations.

At the end of the week we listened to a new sensory story of the gingerbread man. We explored flour and ginger spice as well as listening to the animal sounds in the story.

In Math we have been exploring 2D shape. We listened to a shape song, played a matching game and went on a shape hunt in the sensory room.

Week 5

This week we loved the sensory story 'Lost and Found' about a boy and a penguin becoming friends. As we told the story we listened to bird song, sounds of a big ship's horn and the sea. We dressed up in a stripy top like the boy and found a cuddly toy penguin. We sat in cardboard boxes and pretended to row to the South Pole and then played with ice to feel how cold it might be there.

In art we explored frozen paints and making prints with shaving foam and paint. It was very messy!

We had a great wintery Forest School session where we loved exploring the white frost on all the plants, trees and fences. We had warm milk when we got inside to warm us up!

Week 3

This week we have continued our topic on transport. We have learnt how to make our own model of a car first with a wooden construction set and later using junk materials. We chose a box and added axels and wheels.

In art we all enjoyed painting with vehicles using autumnal colours and loved choosing colours to paint our own model cars.

At Forest School we accidentally broke a branch which lead us to thinking about Stickman. We made our own stick people using sticks and wool.

Week 4

This week we have been learning about explorers and how explorers a long time ago travelled on big ships to explore cold places. We learnt about what clothes you would need to wear to travel to cold places.

We made our own boats using containers and straws and tested them in water. We explored cold colours of paint to create pictures of the sea. We painted on foil and on paper and then added salt to create texture.

We had a visit from a police officer this week. He taught us how to keep safe when we are out and about and how we can get help in an emergency. We got to try on some of a police officer’s uniform and sit in the police car.

Week 2

This week we have been exploring autumnal colours in art and creating seasonal pictures. We painted fireworks by dripping and splatting the paint, printed leaves using big brushes and rollers and rolled conkers in paint.

We had a surprise visit by a theatre company this week who performed 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. We loved the songs and thought the cow was very funny.

During our topic work we learnt more about vehicles we travel in and then looked at what children travel in, in Thailand and Japan. We all would like to travel in the very fast bullet train in Japan!

Week 1

Welcome back after the half term break. This week we began our topic about transport. We thought back to some work we did last half term about how we travel to school. We added other types of transport to a big picture, which showed if the types of transport travelled on water, in the sky or on a road or tracks.

Our sensory text this week was a firework poem. We brought it to life by looking at different objects that were sparkly and red, gold and blue in colour. We used musical instruments to explore the sounds of fireworks and used sensory toys to watch how things spin, whizz and dazzle. We finished off by watching a clip of fireworks on the screen. Next week we hope to create our own sensory firework poem.
