At Spring Meadow Infant and Nursery School, we are committed to ‘preparing children for a life full of learning’ through the highest quality care and education for our children. In the early years, our intention is to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding for their future learning and success in the diverse world in which they live. We aim for the children to leave the reception year as kind, independent and resilient individuals that have the confidence and ability to communicate effectively, problem solve, develop ideas and think creatively.
In the Early Years we are aspirational as well as inspirational. By providing safe and nurturing learning environments and rich and challenging learning experiences, we aim for our children to not only fulfil their learning potential but to establish a positive foundation for a happy and rewarding life. Our children are wonderful individuals with individual needs and we always ensure these are met and that every child and family feels fully included at all times.
We fully recognise and endorse the importance of the early years as outlined in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ‘Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child's experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances.’
Our early years setting follows the standard as outlined in the 2025 statutory framework of the EYFS. There are four guiding principles that shape the practice in our early years settings.
- Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be brave and resilient, curious and questioning, kind, confident and self-assured from a very young age
- Every child learns to be strong and independent through positive relationships which are nurtured throughout the early years.
- Every child learns and develops well in enabling environments, in which the experiences meet their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners, parents and carers.
- The EYFS framework covers the education and care of all children in early years’ provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities, and recognises that children learn and develop differently.
