Our topic this half term is Animals and their Babies which will delivered through the stories Monkey Puzzle, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Dear Zoo.
Week ending 9th May 2025
This week our story has been 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. The children love this story and have enjoyed re-enacting it throughout the classroom and outdoor area. We have been painting amazing trolls at the easel, building bridges for our small world animals and even making big bridges outside for the children to walk along! There has been a lot of imaginative play with lots of "Who's that trip trapping over my bridge!" being shouted outside. Butterflies children have made brilliant trolls and goats on the climbing frame bridge, it has been lovely to see how much they enjoy the story!
This week we have continued learning about wild animals through our book 'Monkey Puzzle'. The children have been very keen to explore the playground using binoculars they have made at the creative station, looking for different insects and birds. We have also made some bird houses and the children were excited to see the Mummy bird that is living in the wooden bird box above our shed. We can't wait to see the baby birds when they hatch!
In the classroom the children have been very busy at the easel, painting different animals they like and talking about what makes them special "flamingos stand on one leg!". They have also been making different spikey animals like hedgehogs using the wooden sticks in the playdough and working hard to count how many spikes they gave their animal!
This half term our topic is 'Animals and Their Babies'. This week our key text is 'Monkey Puzzle' by Julia Donaldson. The children have enjoyed listening to this story and talking about baby animals that do not look like their parents!
We have also been doing some gardening outside and have sown some cress seeds that the children have all now taken home. We have been very excited to see our class pot growing!
