Week 7- 14/07/25
It's the final full week of the school year! In maths the children looked at clocks and how to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour, if you have a analogue clock at home or see one on your travels be sure to ask them what the time is. The English lessons this week have given the children an introduction into poems with some of the children even writing their own rhyming poems.
We had the pleasure of watching the Irock assembly this week and if your child is interested then please make sure to sign them up for the next academic year.
Week 6- 07/07/25
This week year 1 have finished there last hot writes of the year! This was a fun one for the children as they innovated the story "We're going on a bear hunt", the children should be really proud of their final hot writes as some amazing work was created. In maths Year 1 was looking at and comparing coins and notes, the children had a blast doing this and showed a great understanding of currency.
At the end of the week the summer fete took place and a lot of the children and staff had a great time with all the fete had to offer.
Week 5- 30/06/25
This week marked a return to our regular Maths and English lessons following assessment week. The children have thoroughly enjoyed diving into their new story, We're Going on a Bear Hunt. It’s quickly become a class favourite—many of the children can now recite the entire tale with great enthusiasm!
In Maths, we've been focusing on place value up to 100, and the children have made fantastic progress in developing their understanding and confidence with numbers.
This week has been science week and each day we have completed a new creative science experiment, making predictions and developing our scientific thinking. Meanwhile, in Computing, they became imaginative inventors, designing their own data collection devices. A wonderfully creative and productive week all round!
Week 4 - 23/06/25
This week has been assessment week! The children have completed 2 reading papers and 2 maths papers, despite the heat they all coped incredibly well and should be proud of themselves.
Our afternoons have been a little more fun and laid back, in the children painted their sculptures in Art, explored the different uses for materials in Science and tasted various different foods in preparation for smoothy making next week! We have have done lots of dancing to Danny go and drawing with Rob tutorials.
Week 3 - 16/06/25
This week in English the children have been creating their very own imaginative versions of The Three Little Pigs! From The Three Little Lambs to stories starring a cat, a unicorn, and even bats, the children have wowed us with their creativity and enthusiasm. Not only have they come up with wonderful ideas, but they’ve also worked exceptionally hard all year to improve their handwriting and sentence writing. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they compose legible, well-structured stories all on their own.]
Week 2- Beginning 09/06/25
In English, the children have begun exploring the story of The Three Little Pigs. They have been identifying similes within the text and spotting words that use the prefix ‘un’, before using both techniques in their own writing. In Maths, the focus has been on learning about left and right, as well as practising ordinal numbers—1st to 5th—just in time for next week’s Sports Day races!
In History, the children have been learning about the origins of Parliament and its role in shaping our country. They also discussed how Parliament’s function in the past compares to how it works today.
Week 1- Beginning 03/06/25
Welcome back to the final half term of year 1. The children have been busy in English this week have been learning about similes and how they can use them to make their writing more creative and exciting to read. In Maths the children have finished their work on fractions for year 1 and have moved onto their second geometry unit of year 1 which is position and direction.
In art this term we are looking at sculptures and the children have now created their own sculptures using clay! the adorable penguins they have built are being left to dry before they paint them next week.
