Summer 2

Week One

The children have come back full of energy and are ready to learn. In maths we have been learning about Tally charts and pictograms. The children have been answering questions and interpreting the charts. It was lovely to hear that some children had made tallies of minibeasts when they were exploring in the forest.

The children have been excited to start to explore the Solar System in Science and to learn about the International Space Station in computing. If you would like to take a virtual tour of the Space station you can type ESA ISS virtual tour into Google or Safari and follow the link.

In History we are learning about different people who have had powerful voices for Change. This week we learnt about Gandhi and how his peaceful protests helped Indian people.

Week Two

In Art we have made a tile and printed our fishes using the inks and rollers. We will be using our fish to make a backdrop for our upcoming play at the end of term.

We had fun in English answering Would you rather questions and giving our reasons- Would you rather burp worms or eat worms for the rest of your life? Would you rather be a Pollice Officer or a Teacher? These could be great conversations to have at teatime or in the car!

In our PSE lessons we are starting to think about changes and talk about how we cope with all the emotions these changes bring. We want the children to see change as a positive thing and not something to cause worry. The more we talk about changes as exciting and good, the more the children will view them in this way.

Week 6

The children have been very busy perfecting the play, as well as keeping up with their Maths and English. We have been recapping our learning about money and practised working out change from different amounts. The children have also written and illustrated a pirate story.

They were very excited to spend a morning at their new school and loved the opportunity to meet their new teachers and explore their new classrooms. St. Mary’s staff commented on what a great morning they had and how they were looking forward to welcoming the children in September.
