Week Beginning 9th December 2024
This week Year 1 have been working really hard and producing some really good work. In English they have now completed the last hot write of the year! And it was one of the best ones yet showing the development the children are making. In Maths we've continued our work on 2D and 3D shapes exploring patterns and sorting these shapes.
The children had their special Christmas lunch on Thursday where they enjoyed the lovely food, crackers and wore their lovely hats they created in the week.
Week beginning 2nd December 2024
Sadly this week the school was closed for two days due to the an issue with the boiler, but this didn't stop the children from completing work at home and we thank the parents and families who helped them to access this work.
Once the children and heating came back to Spring Meadow Year 1 completed their end point assessment for maths before beginning the new subject of Geometry by looking at 3D shapes. In English we have begun to innovate our story from last week called Dear Santa and the work has been to a great standard.
As we approach Christmas at Spring Meadow we have begun the festivities with our School festive fair Thursday evening and the rescheduled decoration creation afternoon on Friday.
Sadly due to issue with our boiler the school is closed

Week Beginning 25th November 2024
This week in English we have begun Christmas early and begun our new story called Dear Santa, which the kids have loved and produced some really great work. In Maths year 1 have continued their work on subtraction, this week they have cemented their understanding of what subtraction is and how we apply this.
This Friday both classes will be sending home a selection of common exception words, these are words that we have deemed through assessment that the children can improve upon and if this can be read at home that would be amazing.
Week beginning 18th November 2024
This week year 1 have been looking at subtraction in Maths, this is the first time for the children looking at subtraction and they have made great strides forward using their knowledge from previous weeks and produced spectacular work. In English they have been innovating their own changes on the story How to wash a woolly mammoth and attempting an independent write of their new stories.
Poppy class celebrated their coffee morning this week. It was great to see all the parents that arrived and thank you to those who donated. In Science year 1 have been continuing their work on animals by looking at what animals are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores so if you see an animal on your walk to school ask your child what they might eat.
Week beginning 11th November 2024
This week we continued with How to wash a woolly mammoth and began to innovate the story to change the time adverbials and imperative verbs as this has been a focus of some of our lessons this week. In Maths we have looked at addition word problems within 10.
It has been a colourful week at Spring Meadow with a fabulous dance demonstration on Tuesday for Diwali and the children completing a mixed media art piece in Art inspired by the line work by Miro.
Week Beginning 4th November 2024
Welcome back after half term. This week in English we introduced a new story called How to wash a woolly mammoth, the story of a very smelly mammoth and how we can make them clean again, and created actions for the story to help us remember it. In Maths the children continued to improve on their knowledge of numbers within 10 whilst looking to add numbers together.
The children have been introduced to many new topics this week such as: Animals in Science, Algorithms in computing and many more which the children have been enjoying and producing really good work.
