Week 1
We have had a nice week this week, easing back into our learning! We have recapped on our fractions and have been solving problems using them. In English we have been writing holiday diaries and focusing on grammar!
In DT we have begun the unit on textiles by practicing a running stitch on offcuts!
Week 2
In Art this week, the children have been learning about the story of Theseus and the Minotaur. They looked carefully at mazes and labyrinths and drew one of their own .
In Maths we have continued to learn about fractions and focused on finding 2 or 3 quarters or 2 or 3 thirds of a shape or an amount.
In DT we cut out a template for our money pouches and then cut this out of felt and pinned it together ready to sew. We have been very impressed at the children's concentration and skill. Only one of two pricked fingers so far!
Week 3
Foxglove class had a very successful trip to Pizza Express and behaved beautifully walking into town and whilst they were at the restaurant. Eating the pizzas and having pudding from the school kitchen made it the best day ever!
The children have really enjoyed their computing lessons so far this half term. We hope they have been telling you about making a stop motion animation about Space? They worked in threes to explore the stop motion animation app on the iPad but found it quite tricky to hold the camera still without any wobbles.
In Geography, our topic this half term is learning about the countries in Northern Europe. This week, we focused on the climate and learnt that as those countries are nearer to the North Pole, their climate is generally colder than ours. We learnt about the Sami people who are traditionally reindeer herders. They have had to adapt to the weather conditions and make clothes, shoes and shelters out of the reindeer skins as well as eating the meat.
