Week ending 13th December
We have been getting into the Christmas spirit making lots of lovely Christmas decorations, cards and singing songs. The children made adorable Christmas penguins using different coloured shaped paper to stick down. They look great! The children also got to explore frozen animals and tried lots of different ways to free the animals from the block of ice!
On Thursday the whole school got to enjoy a delicious Christmas dinner for lunch, the children all got to eat with the adults and were very exited to talk about their Christmas plans!
Week ending 6th December
Continuing on from our topic 'Journeys', this weeks book has been 'Mr Gumpy's Motor Car'. The children have had lots of fun playing with cars and ramps, mark making with car wheels in paint and making their own cars with the junk modelling resources. In the book, Mr Gumpy's car travels past lots of different farm animals so the children have also been playing with the wooden farm and small world animals and exploring making animal footprints in the play-dough.
On Friday afternoon we started to get ready for Christmas! Thank you to the parents who came to help make decorations with their children, our classroom looks very festive and glittery!
Week ending 29th November
This weeks key text has been 'The Train Ride'. The children have enjoyed learning about trains and talking about journeys they have been on on trains. Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends were talked about lots! The children have been making train tracks out of play-doh, using number lines and ramps to see how far the trains can go down the hill, mark making with trains in the paint and exploring the shaving foam and blue paint to make the water like in the story.
Week ending 22nd November
This week our key text has been 'The Naughty Bus'. Each morning our little bus has been hiding somewhere in the classroom and the children have been very excited to find it. Our activities in the classroom have linked to the book. We have had baked beans in the tuff tray for the toy vehicles to travel through, we have been making handprint paintings of buses and counting passengers to get on the posters of buses.
Outside we have had our bus station set up, we have been pretending to be buses and singing 'The Wheels on the Bus'. We have had lots of fun!
Week ending 15th November
This week the children have continued their learning about 'Journeys'. Outside we have had a train station set up and the children have explored different ways to 'travel' around the outside area. They have been being aeroplanes, buses and trains.
We also had our special dance class all about Diwali. we learnt about the story of Sita and Rama and the actions to go along with it. The children really enjoyed this activity.
In Forest School this week we got to have lots of fun with leaves. We played a parachute game with them all resting on top and then shook the sheet to make them all fly and jump in the air!
Week ending 8th November
We hope you all had a lovely half term break, the children have all settled in well again after the break. This week we have been learning about journeys. We have talked about the way we travel to school and holidays we might have been on. It has been an exciting week as we had Guy Fawkes Night on the 5th so the children have been talking lots about fireworks, painting pictures of them, colouring in rocket pictures and mark making in the dry oats and glitter. The children were able to tell us lots about the noises the fireworks make and the colours they could see! We have also talked about Diwali and shared a story. Next week we have a dance class coming to teach us a special dance to celebrate Diwali!
