Autumn 2

Transport is our topic for the second  half term in Reception. We will be finding out about different types of transport, transport around the world, transport from the past as well as transport in countries with extreme weather conditions. The knowledge organiser below features key vocabulary that we will be teaching the children.
To support our learning we suggest that you could try to engage with the following low, or no cost activities from 50 things to do before you're 5.
Visit 50 Things to Do | Cambridgeshire & Peterborough and look for these activities!

Week 4

This week The Gingerbread Man story has continued to inspire the children. They have created story maps, missing posters and made gingerbread people using some delicious smelling play dough.

Despite the cold weather, the children were excited to search for a range of different patterns created in ice. They learnt about how Ernest Shackleton used dogs and sleds to travel across Antarctica and some children were keen to make themselves tickets to enable them to experience their own sled ride on the frosty playground!

In maths, the children have been using the vocabulary of more and less and participating in practical activities to demonstrate their understanding of these concepts.

With Christmas now not far away, the children have been learning a range of new songs and are doing a great job of learning lots of new words!
Week 3
Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man! The children were so excited to try and discover what had left a floury mess in the corridor this week that they turned themselves into detectives, and searched for clues. They were all keen to get involved and tried hard to use their phonic knowledge with lots of writing!

Maths was all about exploring the numbers 4 and 5. the children have found, built and drawn ways of representing 4 and 5 as well as developing their subitising skills.

Finding out about transport from the past fascinated the children. They found out about Penny Farthing bicycles, the Rocket steam train as well as  lots about how horses were used for transporting people and towing canal barges.
Week 2
Did you know that Miss Huntington has had a ride on a real tuk-tuk? The children found out about tuk-tuks as well as the super fast Bullet Trains in Japan when they were finding out about different types of transport around the world.

Circles and triangles were the focus of our maths learning this week which helped us to add spots to Pudsey's bandana when we enjoyed activities related to Children in Need on Friday. We made patterns and pictures with these shapes and enjoyed shape hunts around the provision.
Week 1
The children have settled back into school routines after their break and have enjoyed learning a range of simple poems about colourful, glittery fireworks. They have tried really hard to use their phonic knowledge to write simple words to describe fireworks such as, red, pop, fizz and gold.

They have been finding out about different types of transport and thinking about transport they have used themselves.
