Spring

Spring Term 1

Week 1

This week we started our new book 'Roar'. Children have enjoyed making collage dinosaurs. We have been practising our fine motor skills, using tweezers to pick up small dinosaurs. With it snowing we brought some into the class in a tuff tray and the children enjoyed playing with it. They talked about it feeling cold to touch and adults spoke about it starting to melting and why this happened.
We have been learning new songs about dinosaurs which we sang to parents/carers who joined us on Friday for Rhyme Time.
Week 2

This week we have continued reading 'Roar'. We have been exploring patterns, using small coloured dinosaurs. We chose two colours and made a repeating pattern. Children used a Duplo brick to dip into paint to print onto their dinosaur pictures.
We worked together to make our own dinosaur world, some of us used wooden blocks and others used Mega Bricks. It was lovely to hear the children talking about their ideas and to see the children working well together. Messy play we made mud by mixing cornflour and drinking  chocolate together, we then put dinosaurs in.
Week 3

This week we started a new book 'Dinosaurs Love Underpants'. We have talked about how dinosaurs lived  in the past. Children came in to find that some of the dinosaurs had put under pants on and they thought this was funny. Some children have been practising their fine motor skills by hanging pants on a line with pegs. Some of them also had lots of fun putting them on their feet, hands and head. Outside we have been moving around like dinosaurs, stomping, stretching and running fast.
It was lovely to see parents at our Rhyme Time and hearing them joining in with the songs.
Week 4

This week we have continued with our text 'Dinosaurs Love Underpants'. Children had a lot of fun with messy play this week, they were making cakes using shaving foam and drinking chocolate. We have been using dinosaur stencils to make pictures by dipping sponges into paint and then dabbing them over the stencil. Friday we had our Theme Day, some children came wearing extra underpants over their trousers. We coloured in different pictures of underpants and made dinosaur masks using paper plates and stuck a variety of different materials on them.
Week 5

This week we started our new book 'Dinosaurs in my School'. Children have had a lot of fun playing with the small world dinosaur school tuff tray that was set up. It was lovely to hear the different  language they were using while playing. One of the children said "dinosaurs are extinct and lived many years ago". We have been talking about how dinosaurs lived on land or in the sea and that some could fly.

On Friday we had numbers day. Children coloured in numbers from Number Blocks, matched items to numbers and we sang number songs.
Week 6

This week we have continued reading 'Dinosaurs in my School'. We have been talking about Chinese New Year and how it's celebrated. Children have been colouring pictures and making different types of paper lanterns.
On Friday we all went into the hall to do our sponsored pancake flip. The children had so much fun doing this.

Have a lovely half term.
