Growing and Changing is our topic for the second half term of the Spring term. We will be finding out about seasons and change, growing plants, animals, food and farming and how we grow and change. We are very excited to be consolidating our unit of learning with a trip to South Angle Farm in Soham where we will be seeing, and possibly feeding, a range of different animals!
The knowledge organiser features key vocabulary that we will be teaching the children.
To support our learning we suggest that you could try to engage with the following low, or no cost activities from 50 things to do before you're 5.

Week 3
This week, the children have been showing off their writing skills as we come to the end of our piece of work about Supertato! They have really enjoyed using this text to develop their own ideas for vegetable based stories and even created their own real life potato heroes. In maths we have been exploring representations of 9 and 10. To link with our learning about plants we have been observing 10 daffodils to see how many are in flower and how many are in bud to then represent on a tens frame. 'Fill the frame' has been another popular maths activity this week with the children representing different numbers with objects to literally try and fill a frame!
Our topic learning has been about life cycles and the children have discovered how some animals metamorphosise during their life. They created representations of the life cycle of a frog and our little scientists continue to observe the change in our caterpillars as they are growing bigger day by day. We can't wait to see what change happens next!
Week 2
This week has been packed with fun learning for the children. They have continued exploring the outdoor environment for signs of Spring, which linked very nicely to their celebration of Holi, the Hindu festival of Spring and colour. The children enjoyed dancing with brightly coloured fabrics and they created their own movements inspired by Hindu dances.
A small package arrived this week which sparked the children's curiosity. They were very excited to see real life tiny caterpillars and they have been carefully monitoring them all week. The children have been reminding each other to show kindness to the tiny creatures and have been checking to see if they have been eating the special food that was delivered for them.
World Book Day on Thursday saw the children arriving in a range of different costumes; they looked fantastic! They listened to different stories and collaged a giant set of crayons to link with the story The Day the Crayons Quit.
Maths has continued throughout the week too with the children finding and identifying the numbers 9 and 10. In English, the children have also been learning to build sentences about Supertato and Evil Pea by understanding the subject of the sentence and identifying what is happening for that subject!
Week 1
It has been lovely to see the children back at school and excited to learn. Our new topic is Growing and Changing and the children have loved being outside looking for signs of Spring. Our new text, Supertato, is causing a buzz of excitement and children worked out exactly who was to blame for different vegetables being bandaged and stuck to walls! We're sure that there will be lots of great writing from the children as we explore this book. The children have loved enhancing play dough by crushing up herbs and discussing the fragrances. They have also used the playdough to continue their learning about length in maths by making, comparing and discussing 'herby sausages'. Some were even longer the table!
